This course offers instruction in several areas of written communication. An area of emphasis is grammar, which includes the parts of speech and proper usage. Writing mechanics such as capitalization, punctuation, and spelling are also a focus. Along with form, students learn to compose three types of writing: narrative, expository, and persuasive with the use of authentic literature as models which emphasis the six traits in writing: idea, organization, word choice, voice, conventions, sentence fluency, and presentation. Direct instruction is provided as students learn the steps of the writing process and strengthen their editing skills. Students also work on other skills needed for academic success such as vocabulary enhancement, dictionary usage, and word processing. My personal goal for the student is that they enjoy writing and value all their experiences
